The future holds a lot of questions, ones we cannot answer but only hope to anticipate the outcome of. One question facing us, people, is whether we will have enough food to go around. The world's food system is calculated to supply nearly seven billion people each day! That statistic is astounding. However, as world populations continue to grow, worrying begins to unfold as to how we will be able to feed all these people.
As land shrinks for growing wheat, fruits, and vegetables, as well as raising livestock, many people wonder how there will be "enough to go around". One thing that is for certain with the future is the advancement in technology. Technologies are being developed today to meet the needs of these growing populations. Many different sciences are being introduced into this field that once never was found to co-exist. Scientists studying biology, chemistry, engineering, genomics, microbiology, biotechnology, nutrition, and toxicology are all working together to find ways to increase the world's food quota while still trying to keep food nutrious, safe, and inexpensive for people. Some people believe genetically altered food is the wave of the future, however, many are against it.
It will be interesting to see how this all turns out. It is a matter of watching science keep up with nature; populations increasing rapidly with food consumption increasing even more rapidly. One way I think we can answer the call to aid the increasing population with more food is by making buildings to house food and animals. As land area shrinks more each day, sites to allow animals to graze and food to grow is becoming limited. I believer that by developing buildings with aritifical light seasons, we can all our production of both and raising of animals without the direct use of land.n; vertical farming I'll call it. Also, has land becomes limited on the ground, we still have room to grow up. Buildings to house animals and food can centralize all into one locatio Many scientists beleive the solutions they have found to this is not only possible but promising.
Josh,
ReplyDeleteIt is crazy to see just how big a role science has in everything. From climate change to the world's food system...I am glad to decided to become a psychologist, because this is just too crazy for me!
Interesting post. Love ya!
Hey!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am so proud of you for doing this post. I saw this one and wanted to respond immediately. Like Jess said, it is crazy to think about how much scientists have on their plate. I worry about what to make my sisters for dinner, but thinkng about how to feed the whole world!?! Wow, that is insane. I never knew the world's food system feeds seven billion people a day, that's a crazy statistic.
Let's hang out soon. Miss ya!
